"Reckoning" 「波涛獄門 Hatō gokumon」 is the fifteenth episode of Basilisk.

Summary[]

Gennosuke Kōga's group believe that the Iga is ahead of them and that Gyōbu Kasumi is likely fighting them right now. Meanwhile on the boat, Gyōbu is surprised that Tenzen Yakushiji is still alive. Tenzen goes after Gyōbu, but he hides himself and Tenzen tries to provoke him by telling him that the Kōga fights like hiding rats, but Gyōbu explains that how the Iga fight and that it was Tenzen's plan that retired Kōga leader roll out when Nobunaga Oda attacked Iga Tsubagakure. Tenzen smiles and tells him so what and tries to hit Gyōbu, but just kills another innocent man and blames Gyōbu for the man's death.

Gyōbu recalls his younger days when he was training with his father Renbu Kasumi and how he hesitated to attack from behind and was lectured that may one day cost his life. Renbu received a mission to visit Tsubagakure, but while heading there, he believed that shredding any more blood would be foolish and was enjoying his peaceful life with his son. But soon, they got attacked by the Iga and he was fatally injured. Gyōbu felt something and went looking for his father, as he found him, Renbu told him to not cry as ninja doesn't need pity and then died. Gyōbu reported that to Danjō Kōga and soon after that the first Hanzo Hattori bound the clans with Anti-War Pact, leaving Gyōbu unable to avenge and since that day, Gyōbu had been driven by hatred for Iga. Tenzen calls Gyōbu pathetic and that he and his father would die without witnessing hell. Hearing that, Gyōbu got angry and starts attacking Tenzen who Tenzen led Gyōbu to strike a kid's father, killing him Gyōbu freezes seeing the crying kid as its reminded of his own past. Akeginu climbs the boat and uses her blood attack on Gyōbu. As he is covered in blood, Gyōbu hides, but the blood reveals his location and Tenzen comes and stabs him while he is in the wall. Tenzen takes out the scroll and using Gyōbu's blood, he strikes Gyōbu's name, along with Jingorō's. Since they didn't had contact with Nenki and Hotarubi, he assumes they are dead too and strikes out their names as well, leaving both sides with four ninjas each.

At the bridge border between Owari and Mikawa, Gennosuke's group arrive to see the wall with Gyōbu placed there for them to find. They perform a river funeral and release the wall floating on the water.
